How to get a replacement for your faulty AC Surface Pro power cord

Power Cord

As we reported yesterday, Microsoft has announced a voluntary replacement program for all Surface Pro AC power cords sold before March 15, 2015, in the U.S. and Canada and before July 15, 2015, in other markets where Surface is sold. Why now? If the cord is wound too tightly, twisted or pinched over an extended period of time there is a potential risk for the AC cord– the cord that connects the power supply unit to the electrical socket – to overheat. This is not a wide spread issue, a small number of our customers have reported this issue and Microsoft is now taking action to address by making free replacement cords available to all eligible customers as safety of their customers is a top priority.

Microsoft will provide one AC power cord replacement free of charge for each eligible Surface Pro device that you own. No proof of damage is required to receive a replacement AC power cord. Your replacement AC power cord will arrive within approximately 4 to 6 business days. Surface Pro 3 devices sold after March 15, 2015, already have the new-style AC power cord. So, if you bought Surface device recently, you can ignore this program.
